ReplyDeleteThe old woman is the symbol of Nature. Her old age and 'all knobbly stick and rag' suggest the degradation of nature.
DeleteRight... The old women is none but the mother nature and the 'all knobbly stick and rag' stands for the poor and exploited state of mother nature.
